Tucked away in the grounds of The British Horological Institute in the village of Upton between Southwell and Newark, we are a peaceful retreat where you can easily while away a couple of hours. We make all of our own cakes, scones and meals and use the finest loose leaf tea and coffee. We also pride ourself on the warm welcome we give every customer and all our staff are chosen for their bubbly personalities and smiles.
The cafe was run by Ed Halls from October 2013 until early 2016, and we have him to thank for all the great recipes that are still in use today. His patisserie background in many Michelin star establishments as meant we have a strong base to build on. Rebecca White leads the team and her years in catering and natural need to feed makes her a back bone for the business. As well as the day to day running of the cafe, Rebecca also looks after all the outside catering business that comes to the cafe and runs regular cookery evenings in the cafe. Jodie is our second in command in the kitchen and has a great passion and ability for cooking. More importantly, she is a great person who keeps the rest of the team on their toes and has a smile for everyone.
Heading up the front of house is Helen, who has been in the business since it was founded by Ed Halls in 2013. Nothing gets past Helen – and being a coeliac and diabetic she is the driving force behind our gluten and dairy free range of cakes.
Deborah provides us with a regular dose of cheer and loveliness – as well as being extremely organised and efficient. It is impossible to speak to Deborah and not finish the conversation with a smile on your face!
We open everyday at 10am and close at 4.30pm.
